The European Marine Observation and Data Network (EMODnet) is a network of European organisations working together to observe the oceans, to make the collected marine data freely available and interoperable, to create seamless data layers across sea-basins and to distribute the data and data products through the Internet. The primary aim of EMODnet is to unlock existing but fragmented and hidden marine data and make them accessible for a wide range of users including private bodies, public authorities and researchers.

The objective of the contract (September 2018 - Febuary 2020) was to conduct a study on the economic impacts of maritime spatial planning (MSP), assessing its role in the blue economy. The study evaluated how MSP benefits specific blue economy sectors, feeding results and recommendations into relevant EU policies and Competent Authorities in charge of implementing MSP.
Seascape Belgium led Task 5 of the contract (“Organisation of a closing workshop”), organising and delivering a one-day workshop on 29 October 2019 at Hotel Bloom (Rue Royale 250, 1210 Brussels, Belgium). The overall objective of the workshop was to present, evaluate and complement the preliminary results of the study, with a special focus on the five case studies, which sought to quantify the economic benefits derived from the implementation of MSP. A total of 35 people were present at the workshop, including 12 experts, one chairperson, and 8 stakeholders from across Europe.
